What file type does a CNC job need?
Flat, 2D cuts (signage, panels, flat-pack parts) usually need a DXF or SVG with real-world dimensions. 3D milled parts need a STEP or STL. If you only have a drawing or photo, describe the dimensions and ask if the maker can draft it for you.
What materials can be CNC cut?
Plywood, MDF, solid timber and timber veneers, acrylic, HDPE and other engineering plastics, and — on a mill rather than a router — aluminium and other metals. Mention your material in the brief; not every workshop cuts every material.
What size sheet or part can be cut?
Limited by the machine's bed size, commonly around 1200 × 2400 mm for router work (a standard sheet) and much smaller for mill or lathe work. Ask the maker directly for larger runs or oversized parts.
